In Matthew 9, Jesus was with his disciples and as he looked upon the crowds, he had compassion upon them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
At Pinewood, we are committed not only to praying that the Lord would send out laborers into his harvest, but also in equipping and training them for pastoral ministry. One our mission partnerships is with men who are pursuing training to become ordained pastors in the Presbyterian Church in America. The men approved by our Session and brought under care of our Presbytery as candidates for Gospel Ministry are assisted with their tuition towards their Masters of Divinity degree.
As a denomination, we expect our pastors to be formally educated from an approved Seminary. We believe the role of pastor is such a necessary and important role, that the men who pursue it should be theologically trained. However, this comes at a great financial expense to these men. Pinewood partners with these men to help defray some of the cost. Jesus told us to pray, we seek to do even more so that the church continues to have new laborers to send out into the harvest.
